Born in 1959 in India, Nick trained in Fine Art at Canterbury College of Art and University Of Trent, Nottingham. He regularly exhibits his work at a number of galleries, societies and art fairs around the UK. As well as showing regularly with the Royal Society of Marine Artists, Chelsea Art Society, RBA, ROI and RWS Nick was awarded The Julian Barrow painting Prize in 2018, and The Painting Prize at the Pure Art Fair, Sussex in 2017 and 2018. He has been commissioned for many private and corporate projects including several Royal Caribbean Liners and a London Underground poster, and has written articles for The Artist also Artists and Illustrators Magazines plus his work appears in a number of practical art books.
Working largely in oils, Nick avoids a slavish photographic representation, enjoying the possibilities of mark making, surface textures and abstract qualities that are encountered through the act of painting. His focus is to capture the feeling and emotion of a place, whilst depicting the interplay between light, land, water and sky. Apart from a wealth of rich subject matter near his home in Kent, he enjoys painting views of London and continental cities, upland Britain and a growing fascination with coastal scenery.
